Exhaust outlets C-150K
<HTML>Does anyone have any info about extended exaust outlets for the 150 series aircraft?Ive seen "Extensions" out there,but am somewhat leery about these.The stacks on the 150 drop about 2 inches below the cowling,and have a tendency to leave soot on the paint on occasion.I follow normal leaning procedures,but cant help believe that IF you could get these outlets a few inches farther out,the "soot"problem would be less,and maybe the noise would be lower also....</HTML>

<HTML>Do really want to sacrifice your speed for a little soot on the cowl.Think about it ,
it just ads more drag to your aircraft.I have a 172 with the mufflers sticking out the cowling and i wish i could get them cut off to gain a little more speed.I guest it's
a personal preference .Good luck any way.</HTML>

<HTML>Most "Fang" exhaust extensions I've seen are illegal. They add length/weight/moment to the exhaust pipes and increase the effects of vibration which cracks the exhaust system. As for Vaughn's suggestion regarding his 172, he might try contacting Pat Bartone for a set of Bartones exhausts, which relocate the pipes to the cowl exit area and close off the two previous exit holes in the lower cowl. A beneficial sidelight is that the engine runs cooler due to the increase in relative pressure drop across the engine, because of the stoppage of ram air that enters the lower cowl thru the "fang" - holes.</HTML>

One more ? i read in your response to alan also that all the exhaust extensions you've seen are illegal. Are you talking about after market or factory.I thought
all 0-300-D engines had extended exhaust pipe.

<HTML>Hi, Vaughn! I didn't say "all" , I said "most". Most of the exhaust extensions I've seen on airplanes have been automobile clamp-ons purchased at the local autoparts store. They are illegal.
