Re: Best Model

I'd be inclined to agree with Gregg.
All the room, I'd ever need.  Would get me in and out of tighter
places than my 182, and quicker.
For me, the Caravan would be a ideal "camper"

Re: Best Model

How about piston models? Something we could use and be practical in a normal hangar and so forth. !82/180/206 or even xp. All around considerations such as load, speed, soft field and resale value and general all around values. Which model do you see and say i am glad that i own or i wish i owned that instead.

Re: Best Model

If somebody else was paying for the annuals and gas, I wouldn't mind a 206.

Re: Best Model

180 hard to put skis on those other models, plus need too much runway.

Re: Best Model

I have owned almost all the single series except the caravan. The 185 i beleive is hard to beat. The 206 is great, but nosewheel and heavier than 185.For me there is no better 4 to 6 seat all around plane. It will land short, carry one heck of a load and cruis up there with most other utility singles.Too bad the good ones are few and far between. Most were beat to death by commercial operators and have 1000's of hours on them.If people were smart and could find a good one under 3500 hrs they should grab it.Most people after owning one dont trade off for other models.

Re: Best Model

Hello again Henry, we are close I am fly out of Sherbrooke,Quebec.
I think the 185 is great choice also, I fly co-pilot with N369E maybe you know of it it is @ Telford for new paint currently.   I do love this aircraft, real challenge!
I was wondering though if I wouldn't fly more right now with 210,( I am still working and thinking of weekend flights..as one gentleman mentioned over the weather)
I always love their speed but worry about resale of older model in my price range!

Re: Best Model

I would like to talk to someone that has had some experience with the 182 and 206.  I have a 172 witht the 180hp upgrade and c/s prop.  I need a bigger plane to carry my family around.  What are the pros and cons of each?

Sacreligious I know - particularly in a Cessna group, but maybe the best - money no object single - isn't a Cessna.

Have you checked out those Pilatus? - Awesome.

Re: Best Model

Which Pilatus? The bush model or that low wing cargo/passenger 300kt 3 million dollar rig?

Buy me which ever one you prefer - I'm not that picky smile

Did  I mention that I'd prefer the seats in cream
leather? smile

Thanks

Re: Best Model

I dont know. The useful load is questionable on those, they only hold a ton or two.The speed is kinda slow too, only 340 mph or so.I think a 150 would be much more useful in the utility functions.

Re: Best Model

After thinking about this, the most fun model was actually a 172 on floats. My big cessna is great dont get me wrong, but when i was young and so excited just to get aloft that thing was hard to beat. The costs at annual were about nill.Every year just a few light maint things.Lightly loaded with 2 and 3?3 fuel i could go to almost any lake and have a blast. The controls were light, the lines were sleak wouldnt it be nice to go back to those days? Now i can haul lots more, but really dont need to most of the time. The controls are heavier. The maintenance is heavier, the fuel is much heavier.I fly less.I guess we are always looking to upgrade, but you know i dont have as much fun.Maybe it was youth, maybe it was optimism?

Re: Best Model

Just visiting but decided to get my two cents plugged in.  In my view the best overall "value" single engine general avaition aircraft ever built is the C182.  It is a not the best performer is all categories but it does offer the best compromise.  Additionally, it it resonable to maintain, a pretty good IFR platform, not difficult to learn to fly, and fairly easy to resell.  In my veiw the best value for most GA flight missions.

Re: Best Model

Nobody ever answered Dean and I have a 172 with 180hp and CS prop as well.  It's best for me right now!

Re: Best Model

There was a writer with the name C.J. Langenhoven who said: "If you don't have what you like, then like what you have". I have a 172N, and I love her very very much! She is the cheapest ride one can have in the air, and the fact that she takes longer to get to the other side does not bother me - I just spend more time flying!!
