autopilot choice
Am planning to install a single axis autopilot in my 172 soon. I have started to look at the Century 1 and the S-TEC and considering installation by one of the electronics shops in central Florida. Suggestions as to choices? I currently have dual navcoms (VOR) with GS and an ADF in the panel.
Re: autopilot choice
I went through this analysis for my 182 on the S-TEC vs Century and chose the S-TEC 40 single axis unit. If I were to do it over again then I would chose the model 30. The 30 is all integrated into the turn and slip and takes up less panel space to do the same job. The only thing you give up in the 30/20 is Back Course tracking.
The model 30 is a 20 with altitude hold and cost quite a bit more. I decided to put the altitude hold money into other avionics. You can read more details in the CO Mag articles "Adventures with Bill."
