Garmin dealer w/ good pricing
Re: Garmin dealer w/ good pricing
Premier Aviation is also very competitive up at Elkhart, IN (EKM). Although if you got a Garmin indicator for that price I would say you did pretty well.
Barry, as for the GNS430, it is a great box. I have a 430 in two of my airplanes and a 530 in the other one. The aircraft with a 530 had a 430, but I upgraded when I added the GTX330 and GDL69. The screen was a little cluttered with the weather and traffic and thus why I upgraded.
The 430/530s are great units. Besides the fact that there are many features that can be added, they are also very user friendly. My first GPS was a KLN90B and it was hard to program and the moving map was a joke. The 430/530s are light years ahead of those units. Only bad thing I have heard is from guys that fly aircraft above 30K. I have heard that reception can be a little weak even on the 430/530A models.
Re: Garmin dealer w/ good pricing
Bryan,
I flew down to SC on September 25th and filed C172/G. My "poor mans" version of the 530/430 combo is the GPSMAP 295 and GNS430. I have a data cable that I can use to connect the two GPS devices. Direct to on the GNS430 automatically crossfills the GPSMAP295 as Direct to. This gives me the versatility of multiple displays and presentation of additional information. Unfortunately I can't upload all those Flight Plans from the GPSMAP to the GNS. But I can understand why. One is certified and the other isn't.
I've used the Trainer that can be downloaded from the Garmin site to learn the GNS430 in advance of the flight. So far I find it easy to use and what a increase in capability. My second radio is a TKM MX300 and the original Cessna external Glide Slope. So I have two ILS systems now. The Avionics shop did a superb job in correcting a log of ills of the past when they did the upgrade. With the removal of the old 1970's avionics, including a ARC COM/NAV/LOC, Cessna Marker beacons, ADF and Indicator, and Appollo LORAN, I had a net gain of about 30 pounds in useful load.
So far I very happy with my purchase.
