instalation costs
I have been given an installation estimate (sight unseen) of $1500.00 to install my ARC NAV-COM in my c. 150. This sounds very high to me but this is the only avionics shop in N. CA with the time to do the installation. Is this truly what it costs for a standard NAV-COM installation? What about a transponder and transducer? Thanks.
Re: instalation costs
If you're replacing existing avionics with this radio then the estimate doesn't sound too out of line.
If the installation is going to require complete re-wiring behind the dash and throughout the airframe you're talking 2-3 days labor.
They also may be gently suggesting that they don't want to deal with warranty issues associated with an ARC radio installation since ARC radios are (generally) no longer supported.
To my knowledge only the RT-328T, RT-385A, RT-428A, and RT-485A are acceptable for transmission in the U.S.
A transponder/encoder installation typically runs about 6-8 hours not including the correspondence check to the altimeter.
Best regards,
RH
