shallowest VOR indicator for KX-155?

shallowest VOR indicator for KX-155?

Hi, guys.

My airplane is 59' C172 with notorious T-shape control column which prevents any try to center stack avionics from success.

I tried to put 2 KX-155s in the center area of sub-panel and want to put 2 VOR indicators just below KX-155s. Since KX-155s are above control column, there seems to be no problem with KX-155s. The issue is VOR indicators. It seems like I will only have about 4.5 inches of depth for my VOR indicators when my indicators(currently KI-208 and KI-209) have about 5.5 inches of depth. The only way for me to install these KI-208 and KI-209 seems like putting them 1 inch forward of the subpanel.

I noticed there are several many other VOR indicators which have shallower depth than KI-208/209. For example, KI-205 and other NARCO VOR indicator from my panel only seems to have 2.5 inches of depth which will be perfect for me as long as they work with my KX-155s. However, I'm not sure about compatibility of those indicators.

Please, anyone, tell me the SHALLOWEST VOR/LOC/(and GS) indicators which are compatible with KX-155. They don't have to be from King. However, depth will be the most important matter.

Thanks.

Jae.

I'm not sure, but it seems like KI-202/206 have shallower depth than that of KI-208/209. Is this true? Is there anyone who knows the exact difference?

I remember seeing a replacement for the original Cessna T-shape control column.  The new setup allows for center stack avionics.
Sorry I can't remember the name of the company but will post it if I come across the information.

Jae Hwang:

Here is a site that you may be interested in for redesigning your panel to fit the deep instruments It is called Avion Research Corp.

Re: shallowest VOR indicator for KX-155?

You need an indicator with a VOR/LOC converter to work with the KX-155 which is why the compatible VOR indicators are too deep for the older 182.

If you switched to KX-165's with internal converters, then you can use shallow VOR indicators like the King KI-202/206 or the Collins IND-350/351.
