The elevator pushtube is very short, and serves only to connect the bottom of the control column (below the pivot point) to the forward elevator bellcrank below the cabin floor under the front seats. The elevator control connections between the forward elevator bellcrank and the rear elevator bellcrank at the elevator are the upper and lower elevator cables.
If the play you describe is between the control wheel and the elevator, have you checked the cables for the proper tension?
