C-175 NOSE WHEEL SHIMMY
Re: C-175 NOSE WHEEL SHIMMY
Brad, the damper probably only needs a couple of o rings and a fill with hyd fluid. I'm in Aus. so I can't help with local suppliers,
as the a/c is pretty old now the damper may also be worn here and there, but I'll bet that the main shimmy problem lies in your torque links. If you wobble them from the 3/16 centre bolt and get free play, theres is a problem, Cessna have shims for the 1/4 bolt ends, but you'll have to wing it for the middle bolt free play, depending on how bad it is.

The damper only takes a few o-rings. Look in your Cessna parts manual for a break down and o-ring part numbers. They are very inexpensive, even from Cessna. Make sure you look at the rod very closely for pitting. If that's the case you can buy replacement rods too.
