60 amp.alternator breaker
Hello folks
Has anybody had problems with there 172m on poping the 60amp alt. breaker when everything is on. Left McKallen TX airplort at 1200z, foggy so turned on pitoe heat plus all lights and kept poping the breaker. I hope its just a bad breaker.

Re: 60 amp.alternator breaker
Yes, I've experience the same problem. I believe my breaker is a 55amp. I have a 1973 C-172M. I've had a new breaker installed as we thought the old breaker might have weakened after all these years. That was a wasted effort. Lately i've learned my landing light is a 250 watt which draws more current than the one designed.
Have you check the actual individual loads on the alternator? I bought my plane two years ago, and I'm still learning about and what may or may not be the designed loads.
Re: 60 amp.alternator breaker
Thanks Barry for the response. I've already ordered the breaker from spruce so we'll see if it helps. I did put two new halogon lights in the bird so that may well be the trouble You are right in checking the individual loads i will try that as well.
Thanks
Rick R.
