Wing-tip Strobe Light Replacement

Wing-tip Strobe Light Replacement

I have a 1981 C-172P. The left wing tip strobe light is burnt out. I pulled the cover off and the wires that I pulled out of the wing had no splices in them so I assume the entire wing tip must be removed to replace the bulb? Or can the wires be spliced and tucked back inside the wing tip? The part # on the bulb was C622006-0108. Can anyone shed some light on this seemingly simple job? Thanks in advance!
