Wierd - I measured the dip-stick for you... It is 15 1/8 inches. That is the actual length of the flat strip. (Not any part of the packing stem). You might give yours a measure and see how your stick compares... Ours are reading 8 qts after an 8 qt oil change. jack

I have a 1979 182 and to get a correct oil read, i pull the dip stick out, wipe clean, then put back in, to the bottom pull back 2-3 times, then pull out to read it. The reason for a low reading is that there are small o-rings at the top of the dip stick that seals the dip stick tube and pushes the level lower when inserting the dip stick.
