Handles and steps on 172

Handles and steps on 172

I just bought a 1977 172  and it does not have the handles and steps to check fuel. Is there a kit available that can be purchased?

Re: Handles and steps on 172

Don,  We took them off our 182s.. I would rather the line boys (girls) use their ladder to refuel than stand on the struts after kicking dents in the side cowls.  I think they were a bad idea - but that is just my opinion side speaking.. jack

Re: Handles and steps on 172

I agree with Jack; the steps and handles were a bad idea.

Get a small stepladder <http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pspages/ladder.php> and keep it in the baggage compartment.

Also, isn't there a greater potential of damaging the wing strut with a step?

You might scuff the paint but you're not going to hurt it by standing on it.  You'll often find skydivers sitting in the "crotch" and hanging on the strut in flight, prior to leaviing the plane.

Re: Handles and steps on 172

Jack:  Notice you took handles and steps off your 182s.  Have any for sale?  Price.  Thanks.

Re: Handles and steps on 172

A small step ladder carried in the baggage area may be cheaper and a better Idea. We use one with our Cardinal.
