Seatbelt whatdoyoucallems :)
Seatbelt whatdoyoucallems :)
Hi
My shoulderbelts fit to my lapbelts, like most older systems, by sliding a groove on the shoulderbelt over a stud on the lapbelt.
The stud on the lapbelt has a nylon washer around it which helps grip the grooved clasp on the shoulderbelt (this is starting to sound much more complicated than it really is
.
Question - what is the name of the nylon washer that is round the stud on the lapbelt, where can I buy them and how do I fit them?
Looking it it I'm guessing that I can either heat the washer - preferable) or knock out the pin, install the washer and then somehow reinstall the pin.
My problem is that on one belt the nylon washer has broken off and now the shoulder belt keeps coming undone from the lapbelt in flight.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Seatbelt whatdoyoucallems :)
The nylon collars around the pin on the shoulder harness can be purchased from any cessna parts suppliers. I believe that I got mine from Aircraft Spruce for under a dollar each a couple of years ago. They can be stretched over the pin on a nice warm day or you may want to use a little heat from a heat gun or blow dryer. Definitely do not attempt to remove the pin.
Re: Seatbelt whatdoyoucallems :)
I tried the hot water trick but my washers did not soften enough to slip over the steel retaining stud. So, I cut the nylon washer, slipped it over the stud, and glued it in place with extra thin crazy glue (ca. glue, purchased from a local hobby shop. This glue is thin as water and seeps into small cracks.)

The fellow at the parts counter will know what the part # is. They are about $.25 each I think. Take the shoulder belt out and put the washers in a pan of boiling water for a few seconds and they will be pliable enough to slip over the stud. A pretty easy fix.
Re: Seatbelt whatdoyoucallems :)
I have seen quite a few Cessna owners use a zip tie and a pandit gun.
The zip tie is placed around the shoulder strap retain lug and pulled tight.
This has worked for years.
This must be ok because I used to fly Part 135 in a Cessna with this repair. The FAA did not seem to have any heartburn. Our inspector was a real stickler for details.
