C-172 wing tips

Does anyone know the most economical place to purchase new wing tip fairings. Mine are beyond repair and need replaced. My aircraft is a C-172H. Thanks.

Your'e probable going to be stuck with buying from a Cessna dealer. I don't know of any aftermarket exterior plastic vendors. You could try Plane Plastics, which does interior stuff last time I checked.......maybe they have expanded...

There are 2nd party fibreglass tips available--check Globe Fibreglass, Stene Aviation, Chief Aircraft, etc...they are out there and cost about the same as those flimsy plastic tips from Cessna.

Thanks for the feed back. I actually found a place that has fiberglass tips (metco- Aire). Still shopping around. Will take a look at globefiberglass.com also. Wow, what a difference in price! The metco-aire tips are STC'd and I can get a pair for the cost of one cessna tip, Geeez.

did you check out the Madras tips for sale on the other forum? They may fit and might be a lower price alternative. I have a set on my 172I (came with them) I'm not too sure they are that different than the stock tips in terms of performance but last I checked you could get two new ones for the price of a single cessna tip.

I have a set for an early 172 if you are still looking. They are polished aluminum and in great shape. The hole pattern may be different but that can be remedied. You can have them CHEAP!

their phone number is 800 448 9532 they do not
seem to have a web site. they have fiberglass replacement parts according to their ad. You may want to give them a try if need be.

Inboard of the drooping wingtip on an SP there's an aluminum light baffle (can't think of the correct word). It looks like a race: starts about an inch below the leading edge and runs back about 8 inches. Protects the pilot's eyes from the nav light flash. There's a smaller one for the strobe.

What is the real name for this and where are they hiding?
