There are several companies who can supply retrofit shoulder harnesses for the 172E. Hooker <http://www.hookerharness.com/2_commercial.htm> and B.A.S. <http://www.basinc-aeromod.com/prod01.htm> are probably the most popular.

The 172E has manual flaps, so inertia reel systems like the ones from B.A.S. are better since they allow you to lean over and pull on the Johnson Bar without loosening your harness.

I have the STC'd B.A.S. harnesses in my 172, and think they're the best insurance you can buy.

I don't believe you can fit high back seats in the '64 without getting a field approval. You can, however, get headrests that fit the existing seats from salvage yards. Headrests from some '70s vintage Toyotas and Hondas fit the 60s 172s perfectly.

I have a 1967 Skyhawk and I was wondering if anyone has a year/model Toyota for the headrests that fit.  Do you have to get them recovered with Approved materials? Does this require special paper work?
