Frankline engines
We have the 215hp frankline engine in our beloved 1958 C175. We love it. Lots of power and its smooth running. The probem is finding any information about frankline engines. I have some questions like:
What is the clearance for the intake and exaust valves and how often should they be checked?
What is the proper egt temp range for leaning the fuel mixture?
Can the 215hp be upgraded with a turbo as in the 220hp turbo model?
Where can you check for Stc's for the frankline engine like:
fuel injection , exaust systems, electron ignition ?
Thease are some of the current questions I have, anyone in the know to any of the answers. Or know where to get in touch with someone who knows. thanks
Re: Frankline engines
Hello:
There is one very crafty Franklin Engine Guru on the east coast. His name is Rich Brumm and he can be contacted at:

I assume that you are referencing the Franklin "BF8" or "BF9" series of 215 HP engines. Those were used almost exclusively in the Republic RC-3 Seabee amphibian (in fact, Republic Aviation purchased the remains of "Air-Cooled Motors" after Tucker went out of business).
Rich is considered an expert in the Seabee circle . . . I would contact him for assistance. Good luck, take care, and . . .
Regards,
Earl
