stc sa807ce
Re: stc sa807ce
This STC is held by Robert and Barbara Williams, and I believe it's the Avcon STC. Good luck getting a copy of the paperwork; you'll need it.
STC Number: SA807CE
This certificate issued to: Williams Robert or Barbara
STC Holder's Address:
213 N. Clark Phone: 620-782-3317
Udall KS 67146
United States
Description of the Type Design Change:
Installation of Lycoming 180 hp engine and constant speed propeller. (172P LANDPLANES)
Re: stc sa807ce
aren't engine/serial/tail numbers on the STC along with "Do not copy"
I'm not so sure that a copy of someone elses STC will do you much good if you ever really NEED to produce your STC paperwork..
I'm sure you can get a copy if the company is still in business for a "nominal" fee. If your origonal is lost and a "legit" duplicate cannot be obtained a copy of a like STC along with your logbook documentation and the mechanics logs should pretty much satisfy anyone...
Good luck :-)
Michael
Re: stc sa807ce
Have you tried getting your airworthiness and registration file from the FAA? For a nominal fee they will send you a CD with the complete records that they have for your "N" number. You can order it at www.faa.gov. Look for aircraft registration information. Good Luck.
Re: stc sa807ce
I also need the paperwork for this STC. Doing a annual on a basket case 172 with this STC installed. Called out to Ks, They didn't answer or return my call. Wrote them, as of today, have heard back.
By registered the STC holder by Aircraft Serial Number, Registered owner. This just makes sure the STC holder get paid, before you could just get a copy of the STC (FAA approved Data) and do the installation your self. I have no problem protecting the holder of the STC, but this is a legal matter not a FAA matter. This just makes for more bureaucrat.
I do feel that in these cases the FAA should be made to suppy the date.
Re: stc sa807ce
I need the help of a generous 172 180hp c/s stc owner. I am currently instructing from a stc sa807ce complied 172. The prolem is we cannot locate the performance data of the stc. I am looking for everything concerning airspeeds, power settings, fuel burn and anything else that may be available through the stc regarding performance. Your help is much appreciated.
Re: stc sa807ce
I have attempted contact with the Williams without success over a three month period. I finaly started calling the FAA office that has oversight for this STC holding and was able (10 APR 09) to receive a PDF file for my aircraft and this STC from Jeff Janez, after repeated phone calls and messages clearly explaining my fialed attempts at contacting the Williams. I do no know if it helped or if it was coincience, but Jeff Janez finally returned my call after leaving a message asking wheather or not the Williams had effectively abandoned their STC by not responding to requests, and it this abandonment did not therefore place the STC in public domain? Any how the STC is in my records now, the caveat is that the associated drawings referenced are the sole property of the STC holder and can only be released through him.
Re: stc sa807ce
I spoke to the STC owner Williams and he told me that there was no modification to the POH. You are to use the original book for take off distances, stall speed, weight and balance etc etc. Apparently Back in the day, when this STC was done, the FAA only required a change to the POH if any of the figures became worse. I have found an old 177 book with the 180hp constant speed engine to be a good thumb reference.
If you document Manifold pressure and airspeeds I would be very interested. I will setup a page with the data.
He told me that he was thinking about doing an STC for increased weight if there was enough interest. So if enough people call and offer money it may become worth his time.

Re: stc sa807ce
To Avcon and 180hp w/ c/s prop convertions
A place to start is at Del Air in Porterville, CA. Contact at 559-784-9440, Talk to Herry Delicke, he has a h/p increase STC and a gross weight increase for some modles. Sold the kits when still Avcon, befor the Williams got into it.

RE: stcsa807ce
I have a 172n conversion using stcsa807ce. AVcon does have a gross load increase however Mr. Williams has been unresponsive to my requests and calls. Perhaps there is some way to make the STC public information after attempts by the "customers" to obtain necessary documentation is thwarted.
Re: stc sa807ce
I obtained a copy of the cover page for the STC for my 1964E, and I have a table that shows percent power by rpm and MP. that's about it. I tried last year to get ahold of Mr. Williams to see about drawings for my conversion (which has been on the place since the mid 70's according to my logs). So far no luck. anyone had any luck finding copies of drawings etc?
