Air Plains conversion

Air Plains conversion

I have been reading the posts lately and i was quoted 22,000 for my 1963 O-300 overhaul on my Continental. Is the Air Plains 180HP conversionmucj more than this figure?

Re: Air Plains conversion

Rick,

Based upon Stan's post, it looks like you can either overhaul your O-300D for maybe $10K-$12K (including Millennium cylinders and accessories) or, for somewhere north of $30K you can opt for the 180 HP conversion.

Is it worth an extra $20K to get the extra 35 HP?

Only you can answer that question.  However, I am actually looking for a 172F-172H and have every intention of keeping the O-300 (at the very least until I see how the diesel engine STC market shapes up).  Go figure.

Best Regards,
Dale

Re: Air Plains conversion

Hi all,

I just purchased a late model 1965 (almost 1966) 172G with the O-300D engine.

I was reading the replies and got a little confused and wanted to know if someone could clear this question up.

I know that the prices should have changed by now, but hopefully not much.  However, this kit I pasted below ... is a factory engine, labor, service, etc included for that price with exchange of your O-300 at TBO?  If so how are this engine performance and dependability?

Thanks

Re: Air Plains conversion

Do you have an STC for a 1954 Cessna 180 engine conversion. A 520 or a 550 possibly. If not would you please tell me who might. Thanks, Ray Spencer

Re: Air Plains conversion

Hi

I know of a new engine you can put in your C-182s to make them run on Jet A. They way I see it, the investment is definitely worth it because you can find Jet Fuel anywhere whereas Avgas is getting really hard to find and very expensive.
The really great thing about it is that you can fly 40 to 50% more with the same amount of fuel without loosing power!
