210 HP STC for Hawk XP
Anyone have any experience with this? I recently purchased a 1977 XP and am looking at this STC. I have a couple of questions
1. Does it change the TBO from 2000 hours (I have the KB engine) on the engine, prop or governor?
2. I noticed that there is an option for purchasing a new Governor (for $1400) The governor on the plane was overhauled 700 hours ago, can the new settings be applied to the governor on the plane or if it has to be removed anyway should I just have it overhauled then?
3. What is the average cost of a governor overhaul?
Thanks for any help
Craig
Re: 210 HP STC for Hawk XP
I beleve TBO drops to 1500hrs after this convetion. I have an FR172K (French build Hawk XP) with the Cont. IO-360KB. This engine has now run aprox 2500Hrs and is still running very well; low oil cons. and very good compression.
I've tried several Hawk XP's and I'm not sure you'll get what you hope for.
The STC will give you a better and slower taxi-speed, a higher RPM and a lot of noice...
Do you have a 2 or 3 bladed prop?
I had my governor overhaul at aprox $900, but this was i Norway.

I looked into the STC SA1437CE to upgrade to 210 HP and would like to do it some time in the future. The individual who owns the STC is Brad Isham (hence the "Isham conversion" which some people call it). I talked to him about 2 years ago about the conversion and he can provide you with lots of information. I dont want to post his phone number on the web but will email it to you if you would like it.
I do know that the TBO does not change for the IO-360KB, it remains at 2000 hrs. Your current gov can be overhauled, you dont have to buy a new one. He would give you drawings for the prop shop that would overhaul the gov., also the pitch stops on your prop would need to be changed. So your prop and gov need to be sent out. There is also an option to install a digital tach. I believe he quoted me a price of $1500 for the STC. This price did not include the gov overhaul and prop adjustment. It did provide a new tach, flight manual supplement, and drawings needed for the prop shop.

Re: 210 HP STC for Hawk XP
I have the kit installed with a two bladed seaplane prop (I am on wip 2350 amphibs) and there is a huge difference in performance. The engine stays at 2000 hr tbo (with the KB). However what have noticed is the amount of oil on the belly seems to be quite bad. I just think that is a trait of the engine though....
You will not regret installing this kit.
