Re: 0-360 conversion
Rick,
I am very interested in the IO-360 conversion you are putting on your C-175.
You may also want to put this information out to those on the C-175 website http://cessna175.net
Re: 0-360 conversion
I was referring to a continental 0-360 as a 172 Hawk SP caugh my eye in september and i noticed it had that large engine on it . MY 1963 Skyhawk is now ready for an overhaul and i was wondering which would be the most cost effective: a regular 0-300 overhaul or an 0-360 with more power?
Re: 0-360 conversion
Avcon Conversions has an O-360 for model years 1962 and forward. So does AirPlanes. PenYan may as well. The conversion makes one heck of a difference. There are three skyhawks on my field that have conversions, all of different STC, all are different years. I'm aware of a couple of C172G (1964) that have Avcon conversions. They are more economical to fly than a C182, don't have quite the performance, but are still very good. You'll not go fast because a C172 has an amazing amount of drag. You will get off the ground right quick, however, and climb at a respectable 1000 to 1400 fpm.
Re: 0-360 conversion
The Avcon conversions go back to the first 172's, as I am now the happy owner of a 59, Lycoming 360 with the Hartzell constant speed prop. This conversion was done in 1980. Only disadvantage I can see is I don't think the early ones have any kind of gross weight increase available, unlike the later 172's. I'd ask questions to the seller of the kit/stc on whether the 62 would qualify or not for the gross weight increase.
Re: 0-360 conversion
Hello all, I am live in Australia andI have a 1958 172 and my OK 145 hp engine which is in good condition and plenty of hours is going into my friens 1948 C170, so I have a need to re-engine the 172. I have access to an IO360 from a Partenavia PN2 and am searching for an STC.
Any help will be appreciated, Noel
Re: 0-360 conversion
I have recently purchased a 1960 with the 0360 Lycoming conversions and STOL mods. I weighed the aircraft and discovered it has a very forward CG, with pilot and co-pilot it gets worse. It still has the G-25 battery in the stock location. Do you know of any STC or of someone who has changed the battery location to aft of the luggage compartment. My aircraft needs more elevator authority.
Thanks,
Terry
