Re: mountain flying instructor
I suggest you come to Denver and fly into KAPA. I will recomend a hotel. Even pick you up and take you there. Then you can take an extra day and we will fly the Rockies together. If are bringing others they can take the day to see the Denver area via rental car.
If you decide this is a good thing then I will email you some reading materials (no charge) and then give you about 1.5 hours of ground instruction. We will fly for about 3 hours in the mountains together and land at a couple mountain airports.
I believe this may be a better place to learn mountain flying than NY. But I understand your desire to do it before you make your trip.
I charge $30 per clock hour for flight and ground.
Call or email if you are interested.

Re: mountain flying instructor
I agree that mt flying is best done in the Mt.s, with density altitude and backcountry airports thrown in to boot. There are Mt. flying schools in McCall Id. that focus just on this. The Denver offer sounds good too. There are good Mt. flying instructors in CYN "canyonlands" in Moab Utah with Redtail Aviation, and Price, UT. and BTF Bountiful, Utah. Good Luck!
