Southeast California Desert
I just came back from my annual "desert sand toy" season opener in the Borrego Springs area of the southeast California desert. There's a cool little restaurant across the road from L90 (Ocotillo Wells airport) that is open just during sand toy season (you know, ATC's, quads, dune buggies, etc).
L90 is a dirt strip, but very well maintained. I regulary see 206's, 182's, as well as low-wings there, too. The restaurant is "My Desert Rose" cafe (no I don't work there nor am I related to anybody there). They have a great Sat & Sun breakfast buffett, as well as good lunches & dinners as well. They're open 0700-1900 except closed all day Tues & Wed. There's a pilot logbook to sign, and the staff is really nice & friendly. They close for the summer around Memorial Day. I usually call them at 760-767-7744 to check on runway conditions in case there's been a rain or not (very unlikely in the desert).
Anyway, its fun to go in and land at an all-dirt airport for a quick $99 hamburger.
