Replacement strut fairings
Replacement strut fairings
Has anyone a lead on 'split' strut fairings? Several years back I remember raading about them. They were split so that you didn't have to fuss with detaching the strut to replace the fairings. Having trouble trying to find them now.

When we replaced the strut fairings on our 172, detaching the strut was such a non event that I would not bother looking for split fairings. With the wing supported, we took out the lower bolt (at the fuse), slid the old fairing off, slid the new fairing on, and replaced the bolt.

Thanks, Jim. It looks more and more that is the route I will have to take. My only concern at this point is the local guy who could do it thinks that on the 182, you have to remove the interior panel to get to the lower strut bolt.

You can find Split Strut Fairings at www.vortelator.com for the C182.. $398 for the set of 4 fiberglass ones. I am looking into the same for my 1963 182. I am still weighing the best option. That is awful pricey seing that you can get straight fiberglass ones for $60 each at www.stoneaviation.com, or original Cessna ABS plastic ones at www.airsuppliers.com for a bit over $100 a side.

There does not appear to be a Stone Aviation site any longer. Any other suggestions for fiberglass fairings at a reasonable price?

Have you looked at Vangage Plane Plastics. www.planeplastics.com
They have a rather complete line of PMA'ed aircraft plastic parts.

Yes, the do have interior plastics.
I tried with Texas Aeroplastics but they told me they were unable to export the ABS plastic ones,the FAA won´t allow it.So I have to order the fiber ones, more expensive.

Texas Aero Plastics for Export are available thru Knots2U, apparently the export issue is not with the FAA as they have a PMA approval in place. It is with US Customs, or whatever authority it is that controls exports of manufactured good from the U.S. Knots2U have the appropriate export authority and will supply ex there own stock at advertised prices.FWIW :-)
