Side Steps

Can you add side-steps to a c-172N w/o them? Is there a bracket you have to add to the inside of the fuse. to bolt the step to?

I am also trying to install steps and handles to a 172. Anyone one done this before?

I talked to my A&P about doing this to my C172K model, and he said go buy a small step ladder. He estimated $1200 - $1400 plus parts. A $40 aluminum stepladder never looked so good. Fits in the baggage door and only weighs a couple of pounds.

From what we could tell there are some doublers inside from the factory on those that have the step and there have been some cracking on those that have been added afterwards.

From what I have learned about the steps and handles, it seems like it could be done. The steps do not have a doubler, but the handle does. I am now looking for the doubler to see if it can be installed without to much fuss.
