I am a few weeks from my instrument rating check ride when our number one NAV/COM (TKM MX-300 with glideslope) became unreliable.  After finding no local shops who would work on the unit, I contacted TKM in Scottsdale.  They said their turn-around time was 5-6 weeks.  Since that wasn’t really an option for me, they did point me to another company that works on their units – Baven-Rabell, Inc. of Wichita, Kansas (www.bevanrabell.com).  I called and talked to their TKM repair tech. Tom to explain my situation.  He told me to send it off to him and his turn-time would be about 3 working days.  I followed his recommendation and sent the unit via FedEx overnight ($81).  He received the unit on a Thursday and I was amazed to have the FedEx truck show up at my door the following Monday.  I haven’t had a chance to test the unit airborne yet but, with his repair notes, I am pretty confident that the unit should no longer have problems (VOR/LOC indicator would track intermittently).  His total bill as $157 plus my shipping cost both ways.  Since I needed the unit returned quickly, my shipping cost was more than the repair bill. 

For those in need of TKM repairs, I strongly recommend you give Baven-Rabell a try.
