O-300-A/B conversion to O-300-D
Re: O-300-A/B conversion to O-300-D
First question is why??
secondly I am fairly positive that it cant be done. I need to look at the parts manuals for both the models to be sure. I believe the major difference is the case itself and if you change that then it is no longer a 0-300-A.
again I am not sure about this as it is something I am drawing from memery.
(which is almost as good as my typinga nd my spelling)

Most of the older 172's have been retro fitted to the D. The A,B,C,D are all built under the same type certificate date sheet No. E-253 and the only diff in the engines is the angle starter drive and the vacume pump mount. Other than that their is no difference. Harold
Re: O-300-A/B conversion to O-300-D
I must confess to not having worked on that many o-300 engines as we only have one on the field that I only see once a year or so. I know the 0-200 is as I had previously stated. if the 0-300 models are certified under the same basis and the only difference is simply mounting the components then its a simple matter to fill out the FAA Form 337 and log entries. Your IA should have no trouble with these items.

Harold,
Did you get this done? I had trouble finding a O300A crankshaft and have found a low time O300D engine with all accessories firewall forward. I have been researching for possible previous conversions and ran across your email. I look forward to your response.

Here is a STC that will get the job done for you.
TELEDYNE CONTINENTAL MOTORS
STC No.: SE3-663 O-300-C
TC No.: E-253 Parker Hannifin Corp
Reissued: 06/16/86 P.O. Box 4032
ACO: CE-C Elyria, OH 44036
Install dry vacuum pump drive.
Re: O-300-A/B conversion to O-300-D
The Cessna Pilot's association is a great resource for this. They gave us a copy of a field approval (337) for someone else that did this. The local FSDO (Baltimore) was all to happy to use this as evidence. Just join the CPA and ask them for a copy of a Field Approval of an O-300D installation.
Re: O-300-A/B conversion to O-300-D
Good thread. I'm looking for an STC to make "legal" the installation of an 0-300A on a 1959 1/2 172A. My plane is authorized on the type cert for an 0-300C/D which was removed in the last overhaul. I'm stuck in annual and facing an "unairworthy" verdict unless someone can help.
Anybody able to help with this?
Re: O-300-A/B conversion to O-300-D
I have a C145-2 which is the same as the O300A engine. It is almost ready for assembly. Cylinders overhauled all parts ready for assembly. Call 253 377 7645 if interested for This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
