I bought a VRX about 8 months ago. I would say it works fairly well, but it's not perfect. Alot of times I'll be in the pattern and see other traffic I know have transponders but it doesn't show up on the VRX. I think the best thing is that if your busy with other tasks that for a moment take your attention away from looking outside it will give you audio warnings to "SEE AND AVOID". You may have seen that a new version ( XRX ) is out. The XRX gives direction of traffic. You can also incorporate with a handheld type device to show traffic kinda like TCAS. Can't remember the name of the company, but they had an ad in the last Plane & Pilot. If I would have known I would have waited and purchased the XRX.

The pilots who I talk to seem to have one of two opinions on this type of equipment. A) Any help is welcome  B) Don't use it, you may begin to rely on it and look out of the windows less.

I was considering the VRX as it was reasonably priced, it can just sit there and it may help me avoid a dangerous situation, one which I have not physically see develop. The XRX looks a really nice piece of equipment but the price is probably more than I would pay for something which is only to be used as a backup to ATC and my eyesight.

Of course some people say that you get what you pay for and you should get whatever helps keep you safe....

Check with Zaon they used to manufacture the VRX before they changed names (SureCheck to Zaon).
