Front Wheel Fork for 172
Re: Front Wheel Fork for 172
the factory "heavy duty nose gear shock strut assembly" has several differences from the stock. The major difference it the wider fork which is not cast but formed from heavy plate and is bolted to the end of the strut tube rather than directly pressed onto the strut tube as on the standard version. you would need the inner strut tube and pressed on bolt type end plus the fork, and several assorted bolts spacers, etc (and the larger tire, wheel and axle hardware) last time i checked, none of these were available from the factory anymore. however, check out airglas.com in alaska for an stc kit which has all of the above..you can go up to a 8.50-6 on this fork! (pricey but availbale) good luck steve vw
Re: Front Wheel Fork for 172
By chance, another owner at our Airport, CYPK, was looking for a regular front fork for a 172 and he has a larger one,
so we will exchange forks april 24/06, so this should work
out fine, will then install 6 inch front tire, 7 or 8 inch
main tires on 2nd set of wheels (when I fly locally or to
civilized airports like in the US) will install regular 6 tires and wheelpants for main.
so should be all set, depending on where we go.
thanks
Werner
