GPS own installation
I have a C-182P with two MK 12 radios and one Flybuddy 800 Loran. I am considering removing the Loran and replace it with a Garmin 150XL (VFR only). After looking at this for several days it seems all it needs is to remove the old Loran, a power and ground connection, install the rack on the old holes, and install the GPS antenna in the same footprint as the Loran antenna with the same BNC connector. No other avionics are involved.
Is this the type of work an owner can do? If so, does one need to fill any forms?
Thanks for the reply.
Re: GPS own installation
a logbook entry, an equipment list revision, and a weight and balnce revision are the only items of paperwork that need to be done. it requires an FAA certified mechanic or repairman to sign off.
No it is not preventative maintenance. Preventative maintenance is all that a pilot owner is allowed to do and sign for.
