gps upgrades

afternoon all!!
i just bought a 2001 172sp w/ kln94 and mfd550. can you folks tell me how to go about getting the updates for these systems? i see that both are going out of date w/i a few days. cost? frequency? where to get this info? thank you in advance

GPS database downloads are available at https://www3.bendixking.com/Login06

This website will lead you to phone numbers, etc. There are several ways to update the database on the KLN94 - from a laptop, download to the datacard on your desktop PC (requires a card reader with special firmware installed) or by swapping out datacards with Bendix-King.

i am finally getting around to doing this...whew...i see that i can download for the gps...do i also have to buy the subscription for the mfd 550? what exactly does the 550 do other than project the map from the kln..is that what is happening..? please advise so i order the correct subscriptions. i really appreciate the assistance as i am a virgin to all this new gadgetry!!...
