Portable Audio in 172R
Hi folks,
I'm new to airplane ownership. I have a standard '99 172R and a Garmin GPSMAP 396.
What's the best way for me to pipe in my portable audio to the headset circuit, yet have the audio interrupted if I key the mike or receive an incoming transmission?
I've seen intercom type products in the online pilot shops that look like they may be what I want, but I don't know a lot about it.
Any recommendations? It would be nice if all 4 headset positions could get the music, but the pilot and front passenger as a minimum. Do I need to spend a ton of money for this?
Thanks!
Re: Portable Audio in 172R
I stared at catalogs for awhile and decided to try the PS Engineering Aerocomm III. This gave me pilot & copilot portable audio. It is expandable to four places too.
Out of the box it disables copilot radio PTT, but you can work around that if necessary.
This seems to work well so far. The music canceller works fine when the mic is used or PTT is keyed.
