Airgizmo into a 152
Airgizmo into a 152
I am trying to buy local, a 1978 152, ok hrs, decent price.
It needs a new radio, but thats a slide in replacement.
Question is, I want to mount my portable GPS into an airgizmo panel adaptor. Blank plastic covers an empty rack space.
Seems not real complicated to install it.
But can I do this legally or do I have to have an avionics shop do it and sign it off?
Re: Airgizmo into a 152
Hi Martin;
Did you ever install the Air Gizmo in you panel? The Air Gizmo web site states that you need a field approval, form 337, but most of the comments I found on the Internet suggest it is a minor alteration that can be signed off by any A&P. What route did you take? I have one I'd like to install in my 1978 C-172.

Re: Airgizmo into a 152
Touchy subject, I would, as an IA, not have a problem with it as long as the GPS is not hard wired. A cigar lighter that has a protection device (fuse or Circuit Breaker) installed does not constitute changing the "basic design" of the electrical system ...ref: FAR 43 D (a) (xii). Some IA's will be OK with it some will not. The manufacture does state that a field approval is required, probably because the unit is not PMA'd, but neither are satellite radios that I commonly see.
