Audio Panel Installation Cost

I have dual nav/coms (Narco 12Ds) in my 1977 Cessna 150 which are run through an ARC Audio Panel(has a MB). I have been thinking about replacing the problematic Cessna audio panel with a Garmin 340 (which has an intgerated intercom and MB). Does anyone have a ball park figure as to the installation cost to do this by an avionics shop? I was thinking of buying a used/refurbished audio panel.

Check with the shop you would like to do the install or purchase it from. While at it you can also see what they woukd sell one for and install it.

I would be just guessing here, but I bet you can get it done for $500-$700. That would get you 10 hours of labor on a fairly simple aircraft. The audio panel on Ebay usually runs $1100 or so. Probably would cost you $1650 retail at the shop. Becareful though, most shops will charge you a higher labor rate if you supply the parts. You might be ahead in the game if you buy a new unit and get the 2 year warranty.

I just got a quote of $1200 to install a PMA8000B in my 1978 C-172. This is for doing the job while the airplane is undergoing the annual inspection, when the carpeting and seats are out. I am told an audio panel installation is very expensive because it connects to virtually every other piece of avionics in the airplane. That makes the total cost over $3,000. I will probably keep my old KA-134 for a few more years.
