KLN 89B vs KLN 90B
KLN 89B vs KLN 90B
I'm hoping to install a panel-mount GPS in my plane soon, and have been looking at the KLN series. (I'm looking at used units) 430's are not an option due to cost, and I have acceptable radios. I'd appreciate comments and pros/cons between the 89 and 90, namely is the 90 worth the extra cost for the newer unit? I do want to use it as an IFR unit.
Thanks.
Re: KLN 89B vs KLN 90B
Mike,
I never flew with a KLN 89, but I have plenty of experience with a KLN 90B. Once you learn your way around the unit it is actually a pretty good and useful GPS. I have flown plenty of nice aircraft(King Airs and Lears) that have the KLN 90B. Since it doesn't have a comm radio in it, those guys don't have to do a panel reconfigure just to have a GPS. So the point being, it is a good, useful, and still popular GPS.
Now if you are interested in buying one why don't you email me, just use the email link. I have a unit that I pulled out of my 310 when I installed a GNS 430. I have all of the manuals, quick reference cards, and a MD-41 annunciator panel that is required for IFR operation. I would like to see it go to a good home and get some use once again.
Thanks.
