“While flaps were being retracted, the L/H inboard flap attach bracket caught on the wing cove panel support,” states the mechanic. “This caused substantial damage to the cove panel support as well as the attach bracket.

Cause was determined to be worn flap tracks (P/N 0523231-13).” The repair included installation of new tracks and rollers. He recommends replacement of these parts at 5,000-hour intervals, as they are not life limited by Cessna. The damaged flap was replaced with a serviceable unit. (This submitter provided an almost identical report a few weeks later on a C172H. Its data will be included in the SDR database.)
