Lycoming: O360 A4M; Premature Camshaft Wear; ATA 8520
Lycoming: O360 A4M; Premature Camshaft Wear; ATA 8520
Quite similar to the previous report, another mechanic writes, “At annual inspection, metal was found in the oil filter. The engine was torn down and the camshaft and lifter bodies were found to be damaged. (These parts) were purchased from Superior Air Parts...and installed in accordance with TBO (time between overhaul). Failure occurred at TSO (time since overhaul—800.0 hours indicated). It appears the failure was caused by manufacturing defect.” (Provided part numbers: Camshaft--SL18840; Lifter Bodies--SL72877. SDRS returns five additional entries for each part number.)
Part Total Time: 800.0 hours.
