Cessna: T210M; Failed Cabin Step Cable

“While preparing to land,” states the submitter, “the pilot was unable to position the nose landing gear in the down-and-locked position. Following a landing in which the nose gear collapsed, it was found that the retractable cabin step cable failed at the forward pulley (P/N 51710-1). The cable intertwined with the nose gear linkage and would not allow the nose gear to lock in the down position. The main landing gear operation was not affected.

The cable (P/N 1211504-1) was installed on the airplane 8 years prior to the accident.”

(Aircraft total time was given as 7,500 hours.).
