alternator on Cont. O-300 powered 172
alternator on Cont. O-300 powered 172
Does anyone out there have an alternator on a Continental O-300 powered 172? If so how did you get it on 337, STC, HOW???
I'm trying to find a way to put on the same alternator that is on the 1967 172 (which had an alternator standard). If you have any ideas let me hear them.
Re: alternator on Cont. O-300 powered 172
You'll know if you have an alternator on any of the early 172's, the red generator light will never be on. On any of 172's with a generator you need about 1200 rpm before the red generator light goes out (indication a charge is going to the batery, Positive amps). It would have been around 1966 or 1967 just before Cessna went to Lycoming engines that they put Alternators on the O-300 engines and also on the O-200 on the Cessna 150. Anyone with a alternator on a pre-1966 172, and a 337 for installation I could use your help (I know Jasco has an alternator that they STC). I'm trying to get an alternator on my 172 and need a copy of your 337 to use to get mine approved. I really need your help, I have the correct TCM alternator for a 1966-67 172 (electro systems alternator) but it wasn't done with a STC, only by individual 337's. Please help me out!!
Re: alternator on Cont. O-300 powered 172
Hello -
We have a reims built F172D serial no 0031 with a generator and Continental 0-300D engine. We have had lots of problems with it and the power output is marginal.
We want to fit an alternator Ford DOFF1030FR which we have, exactly as the F172K model.
Does anyone have an approved modification or STC to do this?
Many thanks

Hi there -
We want to fit a Ford DOFF1030FR alternator to our F172D serial 0031 (1964), gear driven off the rear of the Rolls-Royce Continental 0-300D engine, exactly as that fitted to the F172H (1967).
Your STC may help us if it's a similar installation.
If not, I am persuing an EASA modification application - it's taken a year so far...
Many thanks

Re: alternator on Cont. O-300 powered 172
Bob, I fly a 64 model C 172.[O 300 D engine] A few years back, I bought a used engine from a damaged aircraft [Mattituck major. Had 400 hours on it] It came with an alternator. Didn't get any info about how to wire the alternator into the existing electrical system, no voltage regulator, or anything else. So, I rebuilt my old generator and used it when changing engines.
If you could tell me where to get the info about installing the alternator [Wiring, Circuit Breaker, Voltage regulator, etc] I'd sure appreciate it. THANKS in advance, Sid Norris

I bought used a Mattituck majored O 300 d to replace my C 172 engine about 5 years ago. It came with an alternator, but no voltage regulator, or anything else. So, I rebuilt and used my old generator. If you could help with the information to install this, [wiring, circuit breaker, voltage regulator, etc] it would sure be appreciated. Re: alternator on Cont. O-300 powered 172
We have a 1960 Cessna 172A that has the Cessna/Ford alternator on it P/N C611501-201. The plane was abandoned on an airfield for about 20 years before being sold by the airport for back tie down fees. Needless to say there are on logs and the disc from the FAA with all the 337's that have been done doesn't have any infor on the installation. Does anyone know of a STC or have a copy of a 337 that they could e-mail me so that I could see how to get it approved since we have to reconstruted the logs.
Thanks
Doug
Re: alternator on Cont. O-300 powered 172
Hello,
I bought a 1956 C-182 and took the seller for his word that all the logs were present.
I am missing the Airframe and engine logs from 1956 through 1969.
I know I made a big mistake by not having him fax me the logs before I bought the plane. Be that as it may, I trusted him and now am payiny the price.
I need someoneslogs of a 1956 C-182A to look at, to see how and what I have to go through to reconstruct the missing logs.
I am missing 2021 hrs.My logs start when the 0470L engine had just been overhauled so I am not missing any engine work that I know of.I am not looking for any A&P/IA's numbers or names, just what work was done during the first 13 yrs. of life. I am going to start with the 337's on Disc from the FAA.
Can anyone help me out with this huge undertaking by sending me some old logs of a 1956 182 to look at???
Sincerely,
James.

Re: alternator on Cont. O-300 powered 172
Seems you have already started .
AD Status records & 337 File are significant here.
Finding records of oil & tire changes appear remote & unnecessary.
The disc should give some info as to where your aircraft was based in it's early life.
Perhaps someone may recognize the N number.
Another thought is to put the N number on this forum & see what comes up.
As is; you will NEVER have "Complete Logs" but that is not really
terrible.
Records ( logs) should be kept until the operation is superceded.
Most log items have probably been redone several times since 1969.
You're not thinking of USING copies of a different aircft's logs?
