Narco MK-12 Radio

Narco MK-12 Radio

I am looking for a No.2 Radio for my C-172D . I was told that a problem may exist with the Narco MK-12D . They said that the readout screen may become too dark to see it at various times. I have not owned a Narco before.

Re: Narco MK-12 Radio

MArk 12's are no loger supported by narco and very few shops can work on them anymore and the ones that do, really charge you for it. Im a avionics tech in Lincoln CA and have installed and removed a lot of equipment. Narcos are a horrible investment and are very unrealiable. You Would be better off buying a Garmin SL 30 Nav com. Its not extreamly exspensive and they will last forever. Not to mention they are small so it saves space in your stack for other upgrades.

Pilots often try to get a cheap used radio  thinking they are saving money but when they brake every 60-90 days and spend a min of $1000 Repairing them you end up spending the same.

Re: Narco MK-12 Radio

Hey mike, i gave you some bad info, its the MK a and B that are no longer supported. So they might still repair a MK 12 (D) but your still better of with Garmin. MK 12 are a very strong radio but not very reliable and have a lot of tray problems.

-Also if by some chance you have a Garmin 430w or 530w beaware that some older radios interfear with Waas ant and could make you loose navigation. I seen this in a lot of King radios.

Re: Narco MK-12 Radio

Todd, please pardon my barging in here, but I think you may be able help me a little if you don't mind.  I've been given an old Mark 12B that I'd like to set up as the ground end of an air-to-ground intercom.  I need the wiring info to the power supply and how to get 12V to the power supply.  I'd also like to confirm that the audio out of the Mk12 will drive a speaker directly.  Thanks for whatever assistance you can provide.

Re: Narco MK-12 Radio

Looking for gently used NAV/COM for my 172M. I currently have both disfunctional. One is King 170B and one is Cessna 328
I'm a student at this point and need to economize
