Galveston Texas
Galveston Texas
Hello everyone, I wanted to share an experience my wife and I had with our little C150 a few weeks ago and the letter I sent to the Evergreen Aviation FBO there in Galveston.
Hello,
My name is Reece Daniel from Jacksonville, Texas. A few weeks back I surprised my wife with a lunch trip to Galveston in our Cessna 150. The flight was perfect and the weather could not be better. This was my wife’s first real experience with a General Aviation FBO and she is still talking about it to everyone that will listen.
We were not big customers. We bought fuel and a quart of oil for the plane and then had someone recommend a good seafood place. We were taken there and then picked up later by a courtesy driver from Evergreen as if we were Lear Jet customers who had bought thousands in fuel. My wife could not believe the service we received at your FBO. I was happy she had a good time and that she was made to feel so special, even though our plane “Mosquito One” could not have made you much in the way of profits.
Evergreen Aviation is the type of folks that will keep general aviation and the $200 lunch in Galveston alive. Thank you so much for helping me show my wife the true spirit of general aviation. I hope you don’t mind that I intend to share this with the folks at the Cessna Owners Association.
I look forward to our next Galveston trip. Thanks again.
Reece Daniel
Re: Galveston Texas
Hello Reece, I did not realize that you were in Texas. Have you ever thought of flying down this way to Mexico?

Re: Galveston Texas
Rick,
I have to be honest with you. Mexico is probably the last place I would fly my plane into. Being in law enforcement, I hear firsthand stories about the drug and corruption problems there. I enjoyed Cozumel but not much else. That's why I am looking at the Bahamas trip.

Re: Galveston Texas
I'm sorry to hear that you feel that way. I have lived and flown here for 15 years and have been fortunate to have traveled extensively throughout Mexico. The secret, as in any country, is to know the right people and know your way around. That is why we offer the services that we do. If you ever change your mind. let us know. Enjoy your trip to the Bahamas, I am leaving for Cat Island tomorrow.

Re: Galveston Texas
Rick,
I am sure that Mexico is safe and I am overreacting to what I see and hear in law enforcement circles. After I try a cross country trip to the Bahamas and then Las Vegas I might be willing to look at a Mexico trip.
I feel certain you are correct that planning and knowledge are the keys to any safe travel destination. Thanks again for all of your very valuable information.
Reece
Re: Galveston Texas
My response is in reference to the initial post. I am a military helicopter pilot and a Cessna 180 owner. During a training mission from Louisiana to Texas and back we broke in the Helicopter at Galveston. The crew there was over the top with their support for us in working through our problem and taking care of us while we got back under way. They even stayed open for a couple of extra hours for us. We were able to finish our 8 hour mission and get back to our own beds (cots) safely that night because of the help that they gave.
I hope that someday I can get back in there with my 180.
