High wing jacks ?
Re: High wing jacks ?
Meyer is the best in the industry, in my opinion. Jack House offers a set as well. Having used both types, the Jack House type is rather flimsy especially when the gear is in operation. Most high wing Cessna's have to be jacked so the bottom os the main tires are at least 18" from the ground, and I have found Meyer to be the most stable. Meyer are a little pricey compared to Jack House but piece of mind is not cheap either. Aircraft tool Supply Company (aircraft-tool.com) has the Meyers and I think that Aircraft Spruce carries Jack House brand.
Re: High wing jacks ?
I had a welding shop make up a stand for me. they are bulky but solid. the top is the shape of a + and my normal low wing jack sits in the recess. for extra safety I use two "C" clamps to secure the jack to the stand. this makes it much more stable and the hydraulic part of the jack doesnt have to go as high. that has to be the scariest part of aircraft maintenance is working the gear while the 182 or 210 is swaying with every motion. I always thought if I was to ever build my own maintenance facility I would have a hole in the floor like the old car garages did. jack the plane up a few inches and pull the boards out from under it. and have a tie down ring in each corner of the shop as well..
just my wishes. I can send a photo of my stands if anyone is interested. they are effective.
Re: High wing jacks ?
I have a Skylane RG. I found a good mechanic to do my annual in my hanger with my assist. However, I need a set of jacks.Your post said you would send a photo of yours if requested. I would appreciate seeing how you constructed your jacks.
Thank you and best regards,
Lamar
Re: High wing jacks ?
When our shop suddenly picked up a couple of 337's ( argh! ) we had a couple of sturdy three legged stands made up that matched the footprint of our tronair citation jacks. The tronair "feet" were matched drilled to the stands, & bolted up. super stable. Tronair makes a set of very tall jacks, to jack for example an aero commander. they also work very well on 210's & 337's. Still a dangerous, shakey job, no matter what jacks you use.
