potential purchase Cessna 400

Re: potential purchase Cessna 400

Hey Doug,
Doesn't look like too many folk on this site have any info. Unfortunately, I have had the same luck [Bad] in trying to find out any info on buying a NEW Cessna 182T and you'd think that would be easier. It appears that in Cessna land the only one's that blog are owners of older Cessna's! I've done lots of research into the Cessna 350/400 and can tell you they are extremely good. I'm doing 3 days of training at the Cessna plant in Independence,KS right now as I'm picking up a 2008 182T and everyone here that I've talked to is excited about the 350/400's, the quality of the plane and what Cessna is doing with it. IMHO, this is going to serriously hurt Cirrus sales. The Quality and performance are so much superior IMHO. I'm definetely going to make one my next purchase within 24 months. I encourage you to look more into it. There was an article written by Richard Collins in one of the magazines just this month comparing the 182T to the 350/400. He was very impressed! Best of luck in your research/purchase decision.

Re: potential purchase Cessna 400

To All Cessna 350/400 owners and owners of newly purchased or well established owner/operators of Columbia 300,350, and 400's:

My name is Scott Fordham and I was the Lead Flight Instructor at the Columbia Factory for the year of 2006 and have over 500 hours of dual given in Columbia (now Cessna 350/400) aircraft. I not only taught the ground school but helped rewrite the training program to align with the FITS standard.  I am now available full time for all types of training events tailored to your needs. Be the safest and most proficient Columbia/Cessna 350 and 400 pilots in the fleet.  I am also available to travel home from the factory with new owners to give that piece of mind that some folks really like to have while traveling half or all the way across the country for the first time in there new aircraft.

Finish where the factory leaves off in your Technically Advanced Aircraft and Avionnics training - call today.

Re: potential purchase Cessna 400

I am a 400 hour IFR pilot flying a T182TG1000, mission Napa Valley/Sonoma to Santa Barbara to San Diego.

Question. Flying characteristics. What are the advantages / disadvantages of each aircraft single pilot IFR?

Question. Economically, which aircraft is a better investment a 2007 182 or a 2007 Cessna 350 after 3-years?

Re: potential purchase Cessna 400

I bought a used Columbia 350 in June of 2007 when I had only about 120 hours.  90 in a 172 and 30 in a Mooney.  A lot of airplane is an understatement but I got 3 days of training and then almost immediately began IFR training in the airplane.  The side stick felt "right" immediately,  the speed brakes come in handy when your a little fast on final. I currently have over 300 hours in the 350 and absolutely love it. In short I  believe I have the best airplane you can buy.  Did I mention speed.  185 knots @ 19gph or my normal of 165-170 knots up at 12,000 feet burning 10.5gph.  The 400 shines on longer flights at altitudes but is only about 10 knots faster down low on about 7gph higher fuel burn.  Hope this helps

Re: potential purchase Cessna 400

Doug,

Did you buy a 350/400?  If so what can you tell us about it?  Prices are extremely attractive currently.  Did you consider a used model?

When searching out your fixed cost of insurance and any training requirements, feel free to contact me.  We will run several quotes for you and can use instructors like Scott for your training.
