Landing Light Electrical Draw

I opertated my landing light for about an hour or so while flying. When I landed the battery didn't have enough power to start. Recharged the battery and the system is working, volt meter shows 13.5 at 1700 RPM. I will not run with the landing light on for such a long time in the future but should the landing light draw the battery down?

The system should be checked with the buss loaded (all electrical components on) and the voltage range should fall between 13.7 to 14.2 vdc to keep the battery properly charged. I would also check the electolyte levels in the battery.
