C-210 Landing gear won't retract ????

The last time I went flying my landing gear didn't retract ... I brought it back to my hangar and jacked up the plane and hand pumped the landing gear. I noticed that the lever for gear up/down wouldn't go up and only down. There was a small pin that if I pushed in it would let the lever go up (Is this a pressure metering pin ?). Since I was able to get the lever in the up position, I started hand pumping the gear up. It went all the way up but didn't lock up (The amber light wasn't on). The gear was all retracted but the doors remained opened and the hand pump came too hard for me to continue !!! There seemed to be something preventing me from continuing hand pumping until the gear doors would close properly. I have often checked my landing gear (I have my own set of jacks and a hangar) by using the hand pump and usually its approx. 50 pumps to get the gear retracted and another 10 to close the doors. The same number of pumps goes for extending the gear ! I then decided to see if I was able to properly extend the gear and everything worked like a charm. The gear came down and locked, the green light came on ! I then decided to redo the whole test again by hand pumping hoping that something might have slipped back into place but everything was the same as before including the lever which I must first pull out and then lift up, the small pin was again pushed out and I just pushed it in while lifting the lever for the gear retract ! I'm sure that this small pin blocking the lever from going up is the culprit but I'm not too sure what it is ... Can someone please explain to me !!!

Just to save some advice from others, there aren't any knowledgeable personnel where I am right now and I prefer knowing myself what the problem is ...

Is this pin a pressure metering pin which will pop out as in my case if there's a problem in the hydraulic system. My C-210 is a Turbo 1967 210 ! My year has the Hydraulic Pack

that pin will not retract util it gets the signal from the switch on the nose wheel letting it know the plane is off the ground I think it is called the squat switch

Re: C-210 Landing gear won't retract ????

He is correct, the squat switch could be out of adjustment, stuck(bad contacts) of broke. Also, the wire from that goes to the junction block in the forward nose gear well. This place is notorious for breaking wires. FYI- if you hand pump up the landing gear I recommend having two other people help the main gear up, the hand pump can be damaged because of the force required.
