IO520 Cylinder Head Temps.
IO520 Cylinder Head Temps.
I regularly fly a Cessna U206G with the IO520. We recently replaced the engine with a factury reman. Since the install the number three cylinder runs an avergae of 30 degrees hotter than the other five. As a result, I tend to run the engine rich to keep the CHT of the No. #3 cylinder under 400 degrees. If I lean to best power the No.3 CHT goes up to 423 +/-, with the cowl flaps wide open. The No. #1 also gets up to 400 and the others tend to average in the high 380's, with the exception of No. #6, which always runs cooler than the rest.
My question is - how hot is too hot?
Re: IO520 Cylinder Head Temps.
I use 380f as my maximum in a C185. If you can find John Deakin's articles on Pelicans Perch you will understand why; well worth reading his articles on engine management.
I fly LOP all the time, GAMI's and 6 point EGT/CHT a must. Did it with the old IO520 and now with the IO550. Several friends have several thousand hours doing LOP with no problems whatsoever.

See this thread: http://forums.cessnaowner.org/read/4/18732/page=1
Secondly, do TCM SID 97-2, and turn your fuel flow 10% above the maximum they say in the spec for your engine.
