Fuel Valve Drain
Fuel Valve Drain
This weekend we were doing the annual on the 182RG, and one of the items on the checklist is to remove the drain plug in the fuel valve and check for sediment (I guess because it is the low point in the fuel system). The question is, is there a setting on the valve to shut fuel flow off from the drain? It is marked for L-Both-R-Off, but looking at the diagram in the service manual it looks like Off still feeds from the tanks to the drain. With about 50 gallons in the tanks, I could have a real mess if I pull the drain plug with no way to stop the flow of fuel. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Jon
Re: Fuel Valve Drain
I believe that the plug you are talking about is the one accessable from the belly of the airplane,(1/8pipe), if you pull it, it will drain all of the fuel from the aircraft. The position of the fuel selector valve is irrelevant to this drain port. The same thing can be accomplished by selecting off at the fuel selector, disconnecting the fuel line at the carb or fuel pump (if injected) and let 'er rip, via the fuel selector, for about a 5 count. I would then pull the fuel strainer screen and clean/inspect as necessary.
