I'm a first-time (almost) airplane owner! The 1971 182N has had its pre-buy inspection, and only one expensive item came up. I'm trying to decide how to handle it with the seller.

The prop was believed to have been overhauled 9 years and 390 hours ago, when the engine was OH'd. But it turns out that only the prop governor was OH'd then, and the prop itself hasn't been OH'd since 1996 (14 years and about 500 hours ago).

My question for all of you long-time airplane owners: is a prop OH really necessary when it reaches a certain AGE, or is it really the hours that should govern the timing? And is 14 years a long time for a CS prop to go without an overhaul?

This is a potential $2,000 - $2,500 item, so I want to make a good decision.
