Possible 172RG purchase
Hey guys,
Possible 172RG purchase in the near future. Can anybody suggest some good posts on this forum or give any good advice on this aircraft? This will not be my first aircraft, I am also an A&P (specializing in Gulfstream) so not my area of expertise but want to learn the technical stuff for this aircraft.
Thanks,
Nate
Re: Possible 172RG purchase
Pay particular attention to the landing gear saddles, there is an AD on this but be prudent during the inspection and gear swing (Slop and play are not a good thing). The power pack, as mentioned, is a real PITA and when you change one out you will know what I mean. The brake line swivels are rather pricey, this part allows the brake line to swivel when the gear is retracted, and is a pain to replace, as the gear leg has to come out. Other issues are the oil pressure fitting, at the engine, is very close to the upper right engine mount and has a tendency to rub the mount, loosen and leak... The rubber exhaust muffler mount (rubber) usually needs replaced as it is of poor design. I used to maintain a few of these for a flight school and that is about I can think of for now. Just do a thorough AD research...
