How much $$ is overhaul?
Re: How much $$ is overhaul?
<HTML>Robin,
I suspect youll get quite a few answers, and none will be quite the same,It will depend heavily on Who does the Overhaul(be it an individual,or full service shop),and what up-dated legal goodies(like Millenium,or ECI cylinders)etc, you decide to go with.
It will also depend on wheather you get a complete overhaul,or just basic engine OH.Accessories have a TBO also(Mags,Starter,Alternator,Vacuum pump)etc, and they should be overhauled,or replaced whilst the basic engine is being done.
My personal experience is based on my dinky 0-200A in the 150,and all told its going to be around 7000.00 when all is finished, this includes Factory new Millenium Cylinders. My Magnetos are new already as is the Carb, and the above total does NOT reflect the expenses on the Mags, and Carb.
I suggest you inquire at a reputable Overhaul facility to get the big picture......

Re: How much $$ is overhaul?
<HTML>Although "field" overhauls can run the gamut of pricing, the real way to budget an engine is to consider only a factory remanufactured engine, which includes most accessories. Most engines run between $15K and $25K. Then there's labor to remove and install (about $1200), troubleshoot (another $500), replace all the hoses, baffles, exhausts, prop overhaul, control cables, engine mounts, etc, and you've thrown another $2k-$10K at it. So the bottom line is to do the job right takes anywhere from $25K-$35K, and it's a whole lot cheaper with less down time (the real reason you want an airplane is to fly, right?) to just make sure you buy an airplane with the overhauls done within the reasonable past. Do you want to fly, or do you want a project without a firm price? ;Þ</HTML>
Re: How much $$ is overhaul?
<HTML>Robin,
The bill from my 1980 182RG, engine was done just months prior to my purchase,
total $25,862.............. that included the followingPenn Yan OH the engine with cylinders assemblies, prop OH oil cooler OH, Prop gov. OH, engine mount inspected fluxed, painted, neww lord mounts ( rubber donuts for motor mount), new Tanis heater ( a replacement) new hose kit , various bolts , gaskets alternator belt, ...... removal and reintsallation of engine, prop etc,etc
Previous owner that did OH didn't replace baffles ........ why I do not know .
But do it right and do not skimp! As far as C182 RG........ great plane! not the fastest. BUt it's nice to fill the tanks and the seats and cruise at 150KIAS+ and travel.... well lets say usually longer than 45yr plus bladder wants to.... A little 6 hours WVL ,Waterville,Maine to Spartanburg SC
good luck and good flying

Re: How much $$ is overhaul?
<HTML>JM 4910S, did they OH the mags? Ignition harnesses? vacuum pump? alternator? carburetor/fuel injection system and pumps? exhaust mufflers, risers, and tailpipes/hangers and hardware? Not criticizing anything, maybe yours didn't need/or/want those items, but when buying an airplane such as the original questioner is, ....those items all need scrutiny as well, and they can quickly add up to another $10 grand! gh</HTML>
