controllable pitch props
The type certificate for my aircraft - C-120 lists several props that are controllable or variable
Beech R002-101 or Beech R003-100, Koppers Aeromatic F200, Sensenich Controllable C2FB1, for example.
Anyone know anything about any of these props ? Where to find them, how they work, typical maintenance history , installation cost etc ?
I can't see any significant disadvantage ( except gross weight ) to having controllable pitch and two advantages ( fuel burn and climb performance )
Re: controllable pitch props
Your statement is somewhat vague.
A particular make & model would narrow things down.
Some may have AD's .
The ones you refer to have been around a long time.
Most Non-fixed props have CALENDAR overhaul times. Usually 5years.
If memory serves me the Sensenich 2 Position had a AD that required the blades to be removed & Lag Bolts re-torqued
EVERY 25 hours.
The Beech -Roby used a Hand Crank on light aircraft & Electric motor on heavier.
Re: controllable pitch props
Thanks for the info. On another site someone sent me this link for the aero-matic prop - apparently someone is rebuilding them www.aeromatic.com though the price is a tad steep - $5000+
